The Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and seeks a translational or basic scientist to serve as Director of Research for the Movement Disorder Program.
The recruitment of a translational or basic scientist whose research program aligns with the goals and resources of the Parkinson and Other Movement Disorders Center (POMDC) will enhance the research aims of the center and foster the success of junior faculty with career development awards. The POMDC and the fellowship program will benefit from a senior research leader in the field, with federal grants who will play an important role in teaching and research, while fostering the broader research mission of the POMDC.
The successful candidate will serve as Research Director of the established POMDC research program and will teach graduate students and research fellows/staff, as well as provide mentorship to junior faculty.
The successful candidate will interact with a wide range of translational and basic science programs at UCSD to enhance national recognition of the POMDC’s research.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Basic qualifications (Required at Time of Application)
Candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD or PhD in health related fields and have a record of extramural funded research in Parkinson’s disease and/or related Movement Disorders.
Preferred qualifications
Candidates with experience in educational missions in academic medical centers are preferred.
