Health/Care Outcomes & Disparities working group is going to discuss strategies for improving enrollment of minorities in clinical trials and will collaborate with other working groups. FIRE-UP PD team will discuss their experience from their MJ fox funded study.

“Beyond PDGENE and ROPAD”: The Genetics & Environmental Risk Factors working group will discuss what is next for research that includes the words “Genetics” and “Parkinson’s disease”. This could include but is not limited to such topics as the inclusion of genetic tests in PD clinical trials; efficacy of DBS in patients with different PD-related gene variants; predictive genetic testing in PD families; gene-environment interactions; refinement of the “PD Genetic Risk Score”.

The Atypical Parkinsonian Disorders working group meeting will feature updates from group members regarding their work on biomarker and clinical trial development for atypical parkinsonian disorders. The focus will be on Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

The Biomarker working group meeting will discuss whether it is feasible to develop recommendations for the use of biomarkers in clinical trials and also discuss potential leadership opportunities for an ongoing biomarker-based research program.

At this year’s annual meeting we will discuss the PSG Cognitive Psychiatric Working Group’s (CPWG) recently submitted Parkinsonism and Related Disorders invited perspective “Real or imagined: We need a new scale for psychosis in Parkinson’s disease”.

The PSG Other Non-motor Features working group will include updates on current efforts to develop consensus guidelines on PD GI symptoms, as well as a discussion on developing PD foundation hospital care recommendations establishing a protocol for medication management in people with Parkinson’s experiencing dysphagia.

led by James McInerney, Chair, Mustafa Siddiqui & Alfonso Fasano, Co-Chairs

The Functional Neurosurgical Working Group plans to discuss previously proposed projects including DBS programming white paper preliminary data, DBS patients in clinical trials, a survey on asleep vs. awake DBS surgery, NoMoFa in DBS and a RAD-PD update. In addition to these topics, there is potential for presentations from industry, and new proposals for the feasibility of having PSG accredited DBS centers.

The Motor Features working group will feature presentations about current and recent investigator-initiated projects that involve the use of technology to study and/or treat freezing of gait in PD. Confirmed speakers are Gonzalo Reveulta from MUSC, Leslie Cloud from VCU, and Pietro Mazzoni from OSU.
